Also, if you're afraid the community will remain inactive, you shouldn't be! You said that you could always ensure activity, but you could do the same with the community. If you're the only one posting in the community and your journal, it really makes no difference where it's being posted - so long as it's being posted, yeah? :)
Plus, with a community, there would be a lot more people to be around to post. Even inactive comms get a post here and there, and usually not by a mod.
