Guys I seriously need help making animations. Does anyone know how or where to find a good tut on how? I mean, look at this:

Photobucket

It's so choppy! You see such lovely gifs that just flow right like the movie but I just cant get mine like that! I'm so lost and I'm getting really frustrated. :p

It's all in the screencaps. The more caps, the smoother the animation. I use VLC at 0.67 speed for mine:

I wrote up a really long tutorial (http://community.livejournal.com/flying_bedpan/33009.html#cutid3) a while back -- if you're at all interested.

How many caps did you use for those? I think I had about 14 with the last one duplicated twice. And plus, I didn't make my caps so I don't know how many frames it's actually getting; do you have to literally frame every second as it goes by - yourself - so it looks alright?

Sorry for the twenty questions! haha

The first one is 24, second is 82.

Yeah, pretty much. I set up hot keys, so I can just hold down C at that half speed and it'll cap it as long as I want. It's crazy helpful, though.

Wow! A lot of caps haha.

Okay and you set that speed - .67 - as the speed for the caps in PS?

I'm sure I can find the rest of the stuff I have questions about at your tut so I won't ask anymore xD

lol, it's okay.

I set the speed in VLC -- just make it go a bit slower, so they kind of sound like demons. With that many caps the Image Ready speed is like no delay or maybe 0.1 seconds.

Ah well capping it myself would make it easier too then I suppose cause then I could just cap only the bits I want into a seperate folder...Sorry, musing to self. xD

Anyways! Thanks so much for all your help! Now I just need to dl those big ass LOTR movies -sigh- xD

IMO the caps way takes longer and you can mess it up so much easier than the way I said below. However, you can edit them easier such as contrast/colour/etc. since you're working with a graphics program rather than an animation program.

Trying to learn to make .gifs almost drove me crazy. -_- I made really shitty ones on windows movie maker before I got my macbook and now I don't have that so I just resort to .gifsoup. There was a site that let you crop off the tag so they were pretty good, but now I can't find it. >:o

Ohh well that would be a lot easier, indeed! Let me know if you think of the site, if you would. :D

I will! I'm going to do some digging and see if I can refind it because it made the process so much quicker. :D

What program are you using there?

I do it the easy way but it takes more programs than what some other people do. Find VirtualDub (free), Adobe Fireworks (you can get it without a key but you'll have to look elsewhere besides Adobe's site), and Jasc Animation Shop (same thing as Fireworks). You use VDub to cabture the scene, Fireworks to crop/resize, and JAS to edit.

And you get this:

Photoshop CS4

Yeah that's a bit too many programs for me, methinks. xD I know it can be easy in PS, I just haven't found the right method yet. :p

Lovely animation tho! RDJ -licks- hehe

Yeah I really have no clue how to do it the caps way but it seems way more complicated and frustrating than how I do it. That animation right there took me like, 2 seconds. Just bam, bam, bam.

Yeah, I've actually made quite a few animations from videos and that always seemed easiest for me but then people said working with caps is, but I may switch back to doing vid animations.

Back when I had a PC, I made this tutorial (http://batmanvoice.livejournal.com/27360.html#cutid1) for gif making. I've got a mac now so I can't test it myself, but I've been told that the info in my tutorial is still good for PCs.

Thanks! I will definitely have to give that a try, as well. :D
